Questions Asked Of and Answered By Dave
These are real questions from real users and the answers they got back from me.
Some of the question may be edited if I don't think it relates to the question.

"Do all the versions of Windows Mobile run the same software? For example can I download a game for a Windows Smartphone 2003 edition device and run that same game on a Pocket PC 2003 SE device? I expect that the answer may be yes, since they are all based on Win CE, but this is just an assumption. Perhaps we have to wait until Microsoft combines all the versions together into just Windows Mobile?"
Good point. No you cant. Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition devices can run the same software, except if the software is for the phone component of Phone Edition. Pocket PCs cannot run Smartphone software, and similarly Smartphones cannot run Pocket PC software. The reason is because Smartphone has a different layout and user interface. The screen size is also smaller.

"My question relates to a comparison of an HP 5550 and HP 4700 and the RAM vs ROM. I want to use the device primarily for running a bluetooth GPS with maps, and other 'fun' applications like star maps, etc. The RAM for the 5550 is 128 MB and for the 4700 is 64 MB, although the ROM for the 4700 is higher. How would this affect the GPS performance, if at all?"
There will probably be minimal effect. You are going to want to put the data in RAM, though you could also use a storage card. 128 MB would give you more space for maps and to give to running programs. Chances are with the 64 MB, you would need an expansion card if you have a number of apps all with maps.

"I am thinking to get a smartphone for 2005. I have being looking at I-Mate Smartphone SP3i and O2 XPhone 2. The look identical and functionality wise too. What do you think Dave?"

The SP3 and the XPhone 2 are the same, they are both the HTC Typhoon. The SP3i is slightly different. The SP3i and the SP3 are just different styles, but about the same product.

"I wanted to ask you what is more important to have a strong processor or a high memory? which one is more important?"
If you need more processor or more memory will just depend on what you want to do. If you are going to be doing a lot a media stuff, more of both. If you are just using it for contacts and calendar stuff, processor speed won't be that important.
