Questions Asked Of and
Answered By Dave
These are real questions from
real users and the answers they got back from me.
Some of the question may be edited if I don't think it relates to the
question.
"I just bought an hx4705, my first PDA. From the very beginning I
have had a problem turning it on. Their documentation really sucks.
About the time I can not get it to turn on without doing a soft reset.
Is this a common problem, or should I trade in the unit for another?"
I would trade it in for another. There often
are hardware quirks but usually getting a replacement device will solve
them. Problems like that usually show up early while you are still in
warranty, so I would just try another device.
"I was wondering if you could help
me? Do you know if there is a way to change the operating system on my
PDA? I currently have windows for pocket pc on mine, but would like to
change it to palm os? Firstly I would like to know if it can be done and
secondly, how?"
Nope, no way to change without buying a
new device. Windows Mobile devices don't support Palm OS, and same with
the other way around.
"This may seem like a pretty basic question, but how many
programs/files can I install on my iPaq 4155? How can I tell? Can I just
install a bunch of programs onto a large SD card and run them from
there?"
Five. Or five million. It just depends
on what the files are and how big the programs are. You can compare how
many based on the amount of RAM and ROM available, but there is no
direct correlation size file sizes vary. You can install to an SD card
too, and that will help save space. If you have a big enough SD card you
can install ALL of the software.ok, maybe not all.
"I'm lusting after the i-mate PDA2K and the BENQ P50, although I'm
not sure I want to wait until 2007 for the latter (!). Both come
with Windows Mobile 2003 (as will the new Ipaqs, I believe). If
I'm lucky enough to get my hands on one of these, will I be able to
upgrade to the recently announced Windows Mobile 2005?"
The PDA2k is out now...the BenQ P50 is
another story. But hopefully the P50 will be out in the next couple
months. We hope. We don't know which devices will have upgrades.
The manufacture has to decide to offer an upgrade, not Microsoft. So it
will be up to them. Most tend to be stingy with upgrades because they
would rather you buy a new device.
