that features built in MS Office Pocket products as well as Media

Pocket PC. PPC 2002 only supports ARM based processors, but
comes with many new upgrades and features.

PC?

upgrade is offered. For the Pocket PC 2002 upgrade, Compaq
is the only company to offer an upgrade from Pocket PC to Pocket
PC 2002.
Why would I want Pocket Word?
Pocket Word is really a more robust Note
Taker program. It features more features that are in
Microsoft Office Word, and saves files in a .doc format.
This makes conversion very easy, since there really is none, and
allows Pocket Word to open most Word files.
Where can I download Pocket PowerPoint?
Pocket PowerPoint can not be downloaded,
since there is no Pocket PowerPoint. There are various other
similar products, including
Pocket
SlideShow, which gives you many great options for using your
PDA with PowerPoint files.
Can I modify my Pocket PC's Registry?
Yes, you can modify your registry.
This can cause major problems in your device, so it is not recommended.
Pocket PC does not include a registry editor, though there are
ones available for download.
How do I know what PCMCIA cards work with my
iPAQ?
If you already own the card, plug it in
and see if it works. Some will work already with your
device, and some might need some help. www.compaq.com
and www.cewindows.net will
have the best tables of what cards work, or how to make them work.
Why do I care about NE2000 for networking cards?
NE2000 compliant network cards are
supported by Pocket PC. Most should work seamlessly by just
plugging them in and configuring any IP settings.
How
do I install themes in Pocket PC 2002?
Copy the .tsk file (the theme) to your My
Documents folder of your device. Then on your device go to: Start

How
do I have Notes or Inbox save to the storage card?
It is fairly easy to let your device you
want it to save things on a storage card. Simply in either Notes or
Inbox (you have to do each separately if you want both), got to Tools
-> Options, and select the Save to Storage Card option.
Why
isn't my device turning off when I press the power button?
This is a problem that many users see,
but it isn't a bug or really a problem with Pocket PC. Please note
that this solution should solve the problem of a device taking
"forever" to turn off or having to press the power button
multiple times. First you want to save everything (make sure you
don't have open documents) and close all programs. You don't have to
do this, but it will help to make sure you don't lose data. Perform
a soft reset of your device. This will allow your device to really
restart itself. Unlike a desktop computer, your Pocket PC doesn't
really shut down when you turn it off and then reboot when you turn it
on. (A reboot of your Pocket PC is preformed when you soft
reset.) Like your desktop, every now and then your Pocket PC needs
to be restarted, and this just your device letting you know it should be
rebooted.
I
installed an unofficial version of Pocket PC 2002 on my iPAQ...how do I
remove it so I can install the official version from Compaq?
Many people downloaded prerelease copies
of Pocket PC 2002 from services like Morpheus. This version of
Pocket PC 2002 (build 2.07) is not official and can cause problems in your
device. It also might be hard to upgrade or downgrade without the
following tools. Check the links to Compaq below to get the files
you need to revert to Pocket PC v.1.77.

Can
I change the core language of my device?
In most cases this requires you to change
your ROM image. You can do this on some devices by using the backup
feature on another iPAQ (with the language you want) and transferring that
to yours. Some Pocket PC's, like the older iPAQ's, can be tricked
into changing languages. Changing your language will likely void
your warranty and is often not supported by companies.
What
file formats can I use with Windows Media Player 8?
WMV, WMA, and standardized MP3
formats.
Should
I buy now or wait until CE. NET? And can I upgrade if I buy now?
It depends. Why do you feel you
need CE. NET? We really know nothing of what features will be
included nor the requirements for a device to run a version of Pocket PC
built around CE.NET. Chances are CE .NET wouldn't be out until mid
2003. As for an upgrade, if you have Casio BE-300 there should be an
upgrade available since that device actually just runs CE, and not Pocket
PC. As for a Pocket PC form of CE .NET, who knows. If you
device has a Flash ROM that is 32mb, you could be safe, but you never
know.
When
will there be a Pocket PC device running at over 206MHz?
Intel's new XScale chip will pave the way
for Pocket PC's running over 206MHz. Chips are expected to hit the
market in June/July 2002.
How
can I turn off the screen with WMP 8?
In WMP, tap Tools, Settings,
Buttons. For "select function" choose Screen Toggle.
Then press a hardware button you wish to use to turn off the screen.
Now from within WMP, you can turn off the screen by pressing that hardware
button
How do I
format a memory card with my Pocket PC?
This is not a difficult solution since
there is software available to do it. Just download CNetX's
Flash Format.
I
can't remove a program because it says some files are still in use...
The best way to remedy this is a simple
soft reset. Often this will then allow you to remove the program. If
you have installed something like a Today screen replacement, you must
disable the replacement, soft reset, and then remove the software.
Can
I sync GroupWise with my Pocket PC
The Intellisync
Software will allow you to sync GroupWise with your Pocket PC.
Georgia State University has a page that might help you setup your Pocket
PC and Intellisync to work with GroupWise. For that, go here.
How do
I get MP3's onto my device?
When connected to
ActiveSync, click the Explore button. Navigate to the Storage Card folder
in the root directory, and copy your files there. If you are going
to be copying lots of files, consider investing in a card reader. Often
people find card readers to be better solutions for file transfers.
What are the options
for playing movies on my PPC?
There are various
options based on what kind of file it is. If it is a WMV or AVI you
can simply use Windows Media Player for Pocket PC. If it is a Real
file, then Real has a player available for Pocket PC. You can also
get players for MPEG and Divx movies. If you don't want to buy
additional software to play MPEG and Divx movies, they can be re-encoded
using Windows Media Encoder, which is a free download from Microsoft. |
