Pharos Survey Shows That Americans Are Still Looking For Airport Directions

GPS users are also looking for tourist attractions and shopping centers

TORRANCE, CA July 11, 2002 Pharos Science & Applications Inc., the leader in advanced, affordable navigation solutions for Windows Powered Pocket PCTM 2002 and other Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), today announced the results of a study showing that airports are the number one point of interest referenced by travelers looking for directions for use with GPS navigation & routing systems.

Other popular search locations included tourist destinations and shopping centers, but more than 45 percent of the hundreds of respondents chose airports as the most important point of interest destination more than twice any other response. The Pharos Pocket PC Navigator contains several categories of pre-programmed points of interest, (POIs) so that users can find directions to local landmarks and facilities with just one touch. In order to ensure that it provides the most useful POIs possible, Pharos constantly queries its users regarding its POI database. Pharos executive vice president Jeff Curtis said that he isn't surprised by the results of the latest survey.

GPS navigation solutions for Pocket PCs has initially been adopted by mobile professionals, and they have found our products to be especially useful during business trips, said Curtis. We've recognized this need, and that's why Pharos provides detailed directions to airports in all major U.S. and Canadian cities. We cant do anything about airline food, but Pharos can take the stress out of that last minute sprint to the airport after a long business day on the road."
