In May 2005, Microsoft released Windows Mobile 5. The
new platform includes a number of revisions over previous
editions of Windows Mobile including PowerPoint Mobile and
stronger support for one-handed use. ActiveSync 4.0
was also released with Windows Mobile 5 and is compatible
with new and old devices.
In March 2004, Microsoft released Windows Mobile 2003 Second
Edition. The new platform is a minor upgrade over
Windows Mobile 2003 with no major changes but some
additional features. Second Edition includes native
support for VGA resolution and landscape mode in all
applications. Microsoft also release a Phone Edition
version of Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.
In June 2003, Microsoft released Window Mobile 2003. The 2003
version finally upgraded the core OS to Windows CE 4.2. New
features in WM 2003 include enhanced speed and reliability, better
wireless interaction, some cosmetic chances, and more. Microsoft
also released a Phone Edition version of Windows Mobile
2003.
In February 2002, Microsoft introduced Pocket PC 2002 Phone
Edition, integrating Pocket PC into a cellular phone device.
Pocket PC Phone edition is designed to integrate PDA and
phone functions into a Pocket PC style device. Phone
Edition devices not only include the software that Pocket
PC's include but also a special set of software applications
for phone functions. This additional software is why
the Phone Edition devices do not have conventional keypads. |
