Secure Digital is Number One

According to the latest sales data, SD is now the top flash memory type in the US. Compact Flash held the title until now, but SD has been integrated into a larger variety of devices and price cuts since its introduction have promoted sales. Hanging on in third place is Sony's Memory Stick.

Monday 12.15.03 at 11:33 PM PST
So far this week is all about Motorola. DigitTimes is reporting that Compal will manufacture two new devices for Motorola, the MPx100 and MPx300. Other than that, the article says nothing more except to confirm again the MPx220.

Ready for Another iPAQ?
Monday 12.15.03 at 11:25 AM PST
HP could be set to release not only a new series, but yet another design of the iPAQ. The iPAQ 6000 is already listed on Tek n Toys website. While not price is available, specifications are. The device is powered by 64MB of RAM and a 64MB ROM, includes SDIO, Bluetooth, WiFi (802.11b) and GSM/GPRS Wireless. If that isn't enough, the device also has a VGA camera. No price is listed though for those features, expect it to be high. Rumored release date is not until March of 2004.

Also listed is the MPx220 (see rumors below), the expected successor to the MPx200. Rumor has it that the MPx220 would be available in the first half of 2004.

TV for your Pocket PC
Monday 12.15.03 at 11:09 AM PST
The question I probably get asked most is "can I watch TV on my Pocket PC" and until now my answer has been no. EOps Technology has introduced the TV CF Card, a GPS sized unit that works with Pocket PC devices. Powered by four AAA batteries, the unit not only receives UHF and VHF broadcasts, but has an AV-IN jack (can we say XBox). No pricing or availability information, but I am working on getting that.

82 Mile WiFi Around the Corner
Wednesday 12.10.03 at 2:30 PM PST
No, it really is not just around the corner, unless you are in Utah (and if you are close to this access point, you are probably teaming with radiation right now). Students at Weber State University accomplished an 82 mile 802.11b WiFi link. Check out the link below.

Windows Mobile Start Service
Tuesday 12.09.03 at 1:44 PM PST
AT&T along with Microsoft has launched Windows Mobile Start Service for customers using the Motorola MPx200 Smartphone on the AT&T network. The service allows users to easily configure their MPx200 via a web interface to setup e-mail accounts, mobile-optimized websites (like this one), free ring tones, home screens, and install applications. The service then automatically sends changes to the users phone over the AT&T network.

Palm m500 Lawsuit Could Be Over
Tuesday 12.09.03 at 1:35 PM PST
Remember back last year when the Palm m500/m505's hit the market and users began complaining of HotSync problems? The problem turned out to be static electricity and a class-action lawsuit was filed against what is now palmOne. A settlement may have been reached, though palmOne still continues to replace cradles and handhelds as necessary.

MPx220 Smartphone from Motorola
Tuesday 12.09.03 at 1:30 PM PST
You might have just picked up the Motorola MPx200 Smartphone from ATT, but now it is rumored that in February the MPx220 will be released. The new phone is expected to have Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003, bluetooth, and a built-in digital camera. I sure hope that T-Mobile gets these too, or else maybe I will need to switch my service to ATT.
