Since I have been playing around with Smartphone, I
have also been playing around with things like the Theme Generator.
Simple little program, like the one for Pocket PC (probably a little
better actually). I threw some pictures I had in my My Pictures
directory into it and made some themes so spice up my Pocket PC.
Probably my fave right now is of a sunset. Check them out below on

disclose the details of the partnership. Among the possibilities is
the notion that Dell might resell Good's devices and services, which
compete with those from Research in Motion. Dell could also be
incorporating Good's technology into wireless gear of its own or

A, B, G...N; The
Next WiFi Standard
Wednesday 04.23.03 at 9:45 PM PST
"The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
Inc. (IEEE) is working on a revision to the 802.11 specification that
will ramp up the speed of the wireless LAN networking standard to at
least 108 Mbit/s, double the rate of today's 802.11a standard." The
new revision would be called 802.11n, and would likely not be complete
until 2005 or 2006. IEEE has been good about making standards
compatible (like with 802.11b and 802.11g), though it is unclear if
this standard will be compatible since its release completion date is
still years away.

Interesting PPC/Smartphone
Facts
Wednesday 04.23.03 at 2:27 PM PST
Microsoft noted some interesting facts in their recent
month in review mailing to the press. I thought I would pass them

275,000 developers are currently building PPC applications, and the 7
million Windows developers can now more easily develop for PPC's with
the compact framework in Visual Studio .NET 2003. -The Average Orange
SPV Smartphone customers had an internet or WAP session 5 times per
day.

iPAQ 2200 Release

Monday 04.21.03 at 2:39 PM PST
"In
late March, the FCC gave its approval for Hewlett Packard to begin
offering a new line of Pocket PCs, (the H2200) at least one of which
will have built-in Bluetooth wireless networking. A few days ago, High
Tech Computer, the company making the device for HP, sent a message to
the FCC asking that the approval documentation be taken down because
the devices won't be available for some time...Obviously this isn't
definite proof that the h2200 series will be released on May 30, but
it is a strong indication"

same as a Microdrive, the low cost drive could be used in future
mobile products with out driving the price of the device up
drastically. The drive is an interesting alternative to solid state
memory, though it would require more battery life and more likely to
experience problems because of its moving parts.

Intel Smartphone
Design
Tuesday 04.08.03 at 11:22 AM PST
Intel
has been developing a reference design for a Smartphone 2002 device.
My fellow MVP Arne Hess of PPCW.Net recently had a chance to take some
pictures of the device. Arne says the device looks smaller then the
HTC Canary (Orange SPV), but isn't that much smaller. It includes a
digital camera and a different kind of navigation button. No
information on a release of a Smartphone based on this design, nor any
specifications, though it is likely it uses an XScale processor.
Note: Don't be fooled by other sites that claim this as their
story, Arne @ PPCW.Net is the originator and exclusive source for this
story.

Some
power Pocket PC users may be interested in getting their PXA250 XScale
chips switched to the new PXA255 XScale chips (which has a faster bus
speed). Normally, my answer to if this is possible would be no, but an
interesting revelation appeared recently on a Brighthand message
board. Pocket PC upgrade company PPCTechs is actually working on an
upgrade and says it does look like it is possible to do. No word on a
release for such an upgrade nor on the price.

A Slow Week, But Low
Prices
Friday 04.04.03 at 12:33 AM PST
It
has been a slow week for news, but maybe that just means more is on
the way next week. I noticed some price drops not only on devices
(including the Tungsten T and Sony TG50, iPAQ 1910 and 5450) as well
as some great prices on memory. As usual, now is a good time to buy
with many recent product releases under $300. If you already have a
device, consider picking up some memory. A 128MB SD card will run you
only $43 and 256MB is only $60. Trust me, the added space is great!
